Fire Departments Called To Fire At Cornflour Plant

Last updated on Tuesday, May 17, 2016

(WORTHINGTON) - Three area fire departments responded to a fire at the cornflour plant in Worthington Saturday.

According to Captain Terry Koons of the Worthington Fire Territory, corn that had been milled had combusted.

"When we arrived, flames were showing at the exhaust," Koons told Andrew Christman of the Greene County Daily World. "We had it contained within the hour."

Fire departments from Highland Township, Switz City and Bloomfield arrived on scene to contain the fire, along with the Greene County Ambulance Services.

Koons says the fire was a hard place to extinguish, with the exhaust pipe being about 50 feet in the air. Crews used an aerial unit to extinguish the blaze.

The fire caused only minor damage. The plant was able to start production back up before the departments left around 5:52 p.m.
