Cook Medical Recalling More Than 4 Million Catheters

Last updated on Wednesday, May 4, 2016

(BLOOMINGTON) - Cook Medical is recalling more than 4 million of a type of catheter used by physicians around the world every day.

The voluntary recall involves devices using the Beacon Tip technology and complaints that their tips split or fracture. Cook officials say the problem isn't with the construction of the devices, but is looking at possibilities the environment in which the devices are being used is contributing to the fracturing.

The recall will have no effect on patients whose surgeries were completed with the Beacon Tip catheters, according to Cook officials.
