(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County B.O.S.S. Football team is undefeated and headed to battle for the championship Thursday.

B.O.S.S. is actually a cooperative -- headed this year by BNL assistant coach Brett Deckard but including head coach Steve Weber and the rest of his staff -- among kids from the four North Lawrence Middle Schools.

The B.O.S.S. acronym stands for Bedford, Oolitic, Shawswick, St. Vincent, and kids from each of the middle schools have come together to form a team that competes in the Indianapolis Public Schools Spring League from late April through May.

"The plan is to keep B.O.S.S. going every year so the young kids are learning our offenses, defenses and terms," Coach Deckard says. "They won't come into high school practice as nervous or scared because they'll know all the coaches and they'll know the plays.

The games are played at Arsenal Tech High School, on a turf field installed by the NFL to use as a practice field during the most recent Super Bowl at Lucas Oil Fieldhouse in 2012.

"These kids get a lot of individual attention," Coach Deckard added. "Sometimes we will have 9 or more coaches on the field for 30 kids. And the skills they learn prepares them for high school and it shows. The JV team went 8-1 last year."

The championship game is Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis. The team will face off with Indianapolis Arlington.

"I think we will be pretty evenly matched," Coach Deckard says. "We are both 6-0 and we got to watch them play last week... they are a pretty good team. But I think we can take the championship."
