(BLOOMFIELD) - The Bloomfield Town Council approved the partial closure of Franklin Street for a few hours each Friday of the summer for the farmers' market.

The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce and Bloomfield Downtown Revitalization are partnering for this year's market, which is scheduled to run May 27 through Sept. 30.

Chamber president Joshua Riggins told Sabrina Westfall of Greene County Daily World the farmers' market will be moving about a block south from where it was located last year on the courthouse square. The market will be located in the area of Bloomfield Manufacturing and the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene Public Library.

While the market will not be in the roadway this year, Riggins says there may be festivities across the road. So, the partial road closure would be to ensure pedestrian safety.

Riggins had initially requested the portion of the road be closed during the 4-7 p.m. time frame for the market, in an effort to catch some of the traffic leaving the courthouse and downtown businesses. But, Town Marshal Kenny Tharp and Council President Dave Harding expressed concern with the traffic flow.

Riggins agreed to push the start time back to 4:30, which is a change from last year's 5-8 p.m. start time.
