Washington School Employee Suspended After Allegations Of Inappropriate Contact With Student

Last updated on Tuesday, April 19, 2016

(WASHINGTON) - Washington Community School officials have suspended a non-certified employee after receiving an allegation that the employee had engaged in inappropriate contact with a student.

In Oder to protect the integrity of the criminal investigation, the Board and the Administration must limit their comments on the matter.

In a statement officials say the employee has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation and is prohibited from entering the school grounds. Because of confidentiality laws protecting students and employees information and the on-going criminal investigation officials are not releasing names of those involved.

"We became aware of the situation last Monday and began an investigation immediately," said Washington School Superintendent Dr. Dan Roach. "Officials moved quickly and when received enough information we put the administrative action into place Tuesday. We want to make certain our students are safe - that is our top priority and it is critical to create a safe and secure learning environment for our students. Please be assured that the Board and Administration have and will continue to undertake all measures necessary to ensure the safety of Washington Community students."

School officials turned their information over the Washington Police Department.

Detectives investigated the allegations and have forwarded information to the Daviess County Prosecutor's office where the case is now under review for potential criminal charges.
