Seniors Megan Hawkins And Aylssa Cromwell Named Lilly Scholars

(UNDATED) - Seniors Megan Hawkins of Shoals and Alyssa Cromwell of Paoli were named 2016 Lilly Scholars.

The scholarships provide four-year full-tuition to the Indiana colleges of their choice.

Applicants for the scholarship were required to hold an SAT score of 1500 or above, rank in the top 25 percent of their class, receive an academic honors diploma, and have gained acceptance into an accredited Indiana college. Applicants were evaluated on academic skills; character traits such as integrity, responsibility, honesty, leadership and dependability; involvement in community and school; and financial need.

Finalists then completed personal interviews and a timed essay; and, once the evaluations were complete, three candidates' names were submitted to Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. for final selection and approval.

Cromwell is a senior at Paoli High School is also the 2016 valedictorian. She is the daughter of Angela Beaver and Thomas Cromwell. She is undecided on a college but plans to study wildlife biology.

She has been active in the National Honor Society, Youth Council, FFA, Health Occupations Students of America and the Academic Team and is president of her class.

Hawkins is a senior at Shoals High School. She is the daughter of Rodney and Mimi Hawkins. She plans to be a physical therapist. She plans to attend either the University of Evansville or the University of Indianapolis to earn a bachelor's degree in exercise science and then earn a doctorate in physical therapy.

The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships are the result of a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education. There were 142 scholarships awarded statewide.
