Man Arrested After Striking Wife And Firing Shot From Rifle

Last updated on Tuesday, April 12, 2016

(ENGLISH) - A man was arrested Monday evening after a domestic disturbance turned into a barricaded situation before ending peacefully.

Perry County Sheriff deputies were called to a home in the 27500 block of Doolittle Mills Road in English around 8:20 p.m. after a report that 34-year-old Peter Jacobs had struck his wife and then fired a round from a rifle into the ceiling. He then confined his wife and 3-year old child inside the home.

When deputies and Indiana State troopers arrived Jacobs had released his wife and child but had barricaded himself in side the home with numerous firearms.

ISP SWAT and Hostage Negotiator team members arrived on scene, and at 12:40 a.m. were able to talk Jacobs into peacefully coming out of the home to the street where they arrested him without incident.

Jacobs was arrested and taken to the Perry County Jail on felony charges of criminal confinement, criminal recklessness with a firearm and domestic battery in the presence of a minor.
