Indiana University Makes Changes To Design For Outdoor Amphitheater

Last updated on Wednesday, April 20, 2016

(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University has made changes to the original design of an outdoor amphitheater that is going to be built on its campus in Bloomington.

The Herald-Times reports that the IU board of trustees meeting in Kokomo on Friday voted to shift the amphitheater east and to remove five stone pillars from the plan. The original plan would have required altering the path of the Jordan River, which would have required federal approval.

Vice president for capital planning and facilities Tom Morrison says a permanent backdrop of stone pillars would have limited the types of stage settings.

He also says moving the amphitheater east will also keep more trees in the grassy area near the Bryan House. Work on the amphitheater is expected to start this summer.
