(BLOOMINGTON) - Effective immediately, the I-69 Development Partners are implementing an enhanced public safety presence with local law enforcement agencies.

Strict "Zero Tolerance" enforcement of the work zone speed limits is being implemented to provide safety for construction workers and motoring public.

The work zone speed limit of 45 mph is currently in effect on a 24 hours per day, 7 days a week basis on State Road 37 from That Road to Stonebelt Drive and at the crossover condition at Bryant's Creek. The work zone speed limit for the remainder of the project is governed by the existing posted speed unless there is a 45 mph work zone speed limit sign with flashers flashing.

All traffic laws will be strictly enforced. Motorists will be cited for following too closely, speeding, passing in a no passing zone, using illegal handheld devices or operating vehicles unsafely.

The minimum fine in Indiana for Speeding in a Work Zone with Workers Present (I.C. 9-21-5-11) is $300, with court costs averaging $125 depending upon which county the offense occurs. It also results in six points on your driving record and in some counties a mandatory court appearance.

The I-69 Development Partners are asking all motorists to work together to ensure safety for both highway workers and motorists. Slow down, increase following distance and be aware of construction workers and other vehicles while traveling through the I-69 Section 5 corridor. Construction zones are busy and often require traffic pattern changes. Motorists are encouraged to be alert, obey instructions from traffic control persons and obey posted speed limits.
