(WASHINGTON) - Crews will soon begin to make the Daviess County Courthouse more handicapped accessible and comply with requirements of the American's with Disability Act.

Builders and Associates will begin this week, weather permitting.

The project includes building a new handicapped accessible ramp at the east side door that includes a built-in ice-melt system to keep it clear when there is snow and ice, improvements to the restrooms in the basement, some minor work on the elevator plus some work on the sidewalks, curbs and some signage.

The east side entrance will be closed so the public is asked to use the north and south entrances during construction.

The Washington Times Herald reports, the total cost on the project is $437,600. The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs has given the county an 80-20 matching grant to cover most of the cost of the work.
