(BLOOMINGTON) - After conducting a national search to fill the position of Bloomington Fire Chief, Mayor John Hamilton announced Jason Moore of Ladson, South Carolina as the successful candidate.
Pending City Council approval, Moore will begin his duties in Bloomington on June 6. Under Indiana law, the hiring of any candidate that has not had five years continuous service with the department immediately before his appointment must receive Council approval.
Moore leaves his position as Battalion Chief of the James Island Public Service District Fire Department in Charleston, SC. Moore received a Bachelor of Science in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University, a Master of Science from Strayer University and holds a Master of Business Administration, also from Columbia Southern University. He has extensive fire and emergency management training, including multiple certifications from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress, National Incident Management Systems (FEMA) and the South Carolina Fire Academy. Moore is a veteran of the United States Air Force, during which time he served in Afghanistan as a firefighter.

He is well qualified, experienced, highly educated and has exhibited great integrity throughout his career. Pending Council approval, I look forward to his leadership and the creative ideas to problem solving he will bring to the Bloomington Fire Department," commented Mayor Hamilton.
Bob Loviscek, President of the Bloomington Metropolitan Professional Firefighters Local 586 commented on the hire, "The dedicated membership of the Bloomington Fire Department welcome and look forward to working with our new Fire Chief. We anticipate continuing our high level of service to the community under his leadership."
Pending Council approval, Moore will begin his duties in Bloomington on June 6. His annual salary will be $90,000.
