100 Men To Cook To Benefit Meals On Wheels

Last updated on Friday, April 22, 2016

(BLOOMINGTON) - Expect to see some psychedelic table decorations and some really groovy chefs on April 30, as guests dip into 100 culinary delights whipped up by local “celebrity” chefs.

The sixth annual Bloomington 100 Men Who Cook - "Goes Retro" will benefit two good causes this year: Get Onboard Active Living (G.O.A.L.), a free family-focused, community approach to decreasing childhood obesity; and Bloomington Meals on Wheels, a program providing nutritious meals to homebound residents.

The event will be held at the Bloomington/Monroe County Convention Center and is open to anyone and everyone who loves to eat delicious food while supporting the good health of our local community.

"Over the years, the Bloomington Hospital Foundation has been thankful to partner with Old National Bank as the beneficiary of 100 Men Who Cook. It is always such a fun event with great food, and more importantly, it supports incredible causes in our community like G.O.A.L. and Meals on Wheels." says Jon Barada, President of the Bloomington Hospital Foundation.

Chefs will prepare a dish in one of the categories of appetizer, soup, salad, side dish, main dish or dessert. Participants are encouraged to "tip" their favorite chefs - with all money going to charity but all bragging rights going to those with the most tips!

Chefs include actual local chefs, business executives, business owners, physicians, retirees, neighbors and friends! They all share a knack for creating great-tasting dishes and are excited to share their favorite recipes with the community.

The mission of the G.O.A.L. program is to provide kids and families the opportunity to receive education and support on nutrition, fitness and behavioral habits in order to make positive life-long changes for an active lifestyle.

The program operates in cooperation with community partners providing medical, behavioral, nutrition, and fitness education and support. The dynamic relationship between the community partners adds a unique element to G.O.A.L. that is not offered in other weight management programs in Indiana.

Bloomington Meals on Wheels has been serving neighbors in the Bloomington area for over 42 years.

Any person who lives in the Bloomington service area is eligible. There is no age or economic restriction. Clients receive two meals a day, Monday through Friday, along with a friendly visit from a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. The organization relies on individual donations and grants, which help subsidize the program, keeping meals affordable and allowing them to serve more clients.

The Meals on Wheels program has served more than half a million meals in the Bloomington area!
