(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man is behind bars after he failed to stop for an officer and lead police on a pursuit on numerous county roads early this morning.
Bedford Police arrested 29-year-old Jerad Tincher, of 408 18th St., on felony charges of aggressive driving, reckless driving and cited him on 10 counts of disregarding stop signs and failure to yield the right of way.
Tincher ran from police after a Beford Police officer attempted to stop him for disregarding a stop sign at 22nd and I Street at 1:40 a.m.
Tincher, who was driving a 1993 Ford Escort, failed to stop and lead police on a chase through the eastern part of the county.
"The chase went on several city street with him disregarding at least 5 stops signs along the way," says Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley. "The pursuit continued on U.S. 50 East and then onto several county roads with two Lawrence County officer helping in the pursuit."
Officers pursued Tincher on Shawswick School Road, Leatherwood Road, Standish Steel Road, Brown Station Road.
Jackson County police were alerted thinking Tincher might cross county lines.
"Lawrence County officer deployed stop sticks in two locations and Tincher was able to avoid them," Chief Parsley added.
In the meantime, a Jackson County officer who was headed in the direction of the pursuit lost control of his police vehicle on West Powerline Road and crashed.
"We heard that extrication was called, but the officer was able to get out of the vehicle," Parsley says.
it is unclear if that officer was injured.
"He finally stopped at the gas company on Erie Church Road," Chief Parsley added.
After stopping, police ordered Tincher out of the vehicle and he was arrested without incident.
"This incident could have been avoided," Chief Parsley says. "There was no alcohol or drugs involved, there was no reason for Mr. Tincher to run. He would have gotten off with maybe a $100 ticket or even a warning, but instead fled and why - we just don't know. We are lucky no one was seriously injured or killed."
