According to Sheriff Branham, Lawrence County Detectives took over the investigation after Mitchell Police Chief Steve Blair asked because his department is understaffed.

However the incident happened at 160 Dale Street.

There they found 22-year-old Skyler Smith injured. Air Evac was requested, but due to weather conditions they were unable to fly. Smith was then taken by ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment. Smith suffered a punctured lung and underwent surgery and is recovering.
