(EDINBURG) - U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management Northeastern States District will have approximately 40 wild horses and burros gathered from western public rangelands available for adoption in Edinburgh, Indiana.
To help maintain an ecological balance on western rangelands and to preserve mustangs as 'Living Legends', BLM gathers some horses and burros each year to control the population and offers them to adopters with good homes for the horses.
Those interested can see the horses and burros on Friday, March 18, from 2 p.m. till 7 p.m. The adoption event will be held on Saturday, March 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adoptions are on a first-come-first served basis
The event will be held at the Hoosier Horse Park at 7105 S. Kern Street in Edinburgh
Directions: From I-65, take exit 76B in Edinburgh to go North on Route 31. Travel about 4 miles. You will see a brown sign for Johnson County Park and Whispering Pines Golf Course. At the light intersection for E 800 S/Route 252 East, go West on E 800 S (a.k.a. Old Hospital Road). You will travel approximately 7 miles, driving into Camp Atterbury. Turn right (North) onto Schoolhouse Road. The Hoosier Horse Park will be about ½ mile on the left.
Wild horses are intelligent, athletic, sure-footed, and many compete in a variety of equine events; they excel in cutting, endurance, western pleasure, and even dressage.
