(BEDFORD) - Payton Kittaka and Anna Kluender were chosen as the John Wallace Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens.

Each have exhibited dependability, service to community, leadership and patriotism.

The group sponsors the DAR Good Citizens programs at Bedford North Lawrence and Mitchell high schools as well as an American History Essay Contest at the middle school level.

Madeleine Herold of Bedford Middle School was the American History essay contest winner, with her essay entitled, "A Colonial Family's Reaction to the Stamp Act."

Each will be recognized at an awards banquet at 6 p.m. on March 15 at the Jacob Finger United Methodist Church fellowship hall, 139 N. Eighth St., Mitchell. Reservations are required and can be made by contacting Martha Cox, (812) 849-2432. Tickets are $11. Reservation deadline is March 11.

Payton Kittaka, a senior at Bedford North Lawrence, is the son of David and Sharon Kittaka of Bedford. He is a member of Key Club, Beta Club and the National Honor Society. He volunteers at Bertha's Mission and various soup kitchens, donates blood to the American Red Cross and is an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church. He has participated in BNL show choir and crew. He is a skilled bass player and has played for several Christmas cantatas at First Baptist Church. He enjoys reading and spending time with friends.

His peers describe him as a thoughtful, responsible student -- one who has impressive work ethics and leads without dominating. After high school, he plans to go to either Franklin College or Indiana University, where he will major in chemistry.

Anna Kluender, a senior at Mitchell High School, is president of SADD, Key Club and French Club and is vice president of the Art Club. She is a member of Tri-Hi-Y, Academic Team and Science Club.
