Man Arrested, Loogootee Schools On Lock Down Tuesday

(LOOGOOTEE) - A report of a stolen vehicle placed Loogootee schools on lock down on Tuesday.

Martin County police received a report at 9:30 a.m. from On Star of a stolen 215 black Chevrolet Silverado taken from Pike County traveling near Loogootee.

The vehicle was shut down by On Star at the White River COOP, on the east side of Loogootee, but the driver managed to escape police and took off on foot.

A Loogootee Police officer who was one of the first on the scene saw the man as he fled and was able to get out a description of the man to fellow officers.

Martin County Sheriff Travis Roush says deputies, Loogootee officers, Indiana State Police troopers and conservation officers and K-9 officers were in the woods and roadways looking for the suspect.

The school was put on lockdown as a precaution, but police say the suspect never got north of U.S. 50 or anywhere near the school.

"He had holed up near the COOP property and after several house came out wearing a COOP jacket," Roush added. "A state troopers saw him along U.S. 50 and arrested him."

Police arrested 34-year-old Danny C. Riley II, of Francisco on a charge of vehicle theft. Other charges are pending.

Martin County Prosecutor Mike Steiner says he will not file charges in Martin County.
