(BLOOMFIELD) - A Lyons man was killed after his vehicle crashed into a tree Monday.

Police say that it appears 38-year-old Steven Ray Meyer was killed a single-vehicle accident on U.S. 231, about a half-mile north of Antioch Road in Bloomfield.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a press release issued by Greene County Sheriff's Department Deputy Zach Goad, Meyer was traveling northbound on U.S. 231 between Antioch Road and Bradfield Road when his 1998 Pontiac Bonneville left the roadway on the east side.

Police say Meyer's vehicle traveled approximately 450 feet in the grass before striking a tree and landing on its top. The Meyer was ejected from the vehicle.

The press release notes it is unknown what time the incident occurred.

Deputy Goad, who is the lead investigator in the accident, says the crash is still under investigation.

Goad was assisted by GCSD Major George Dallaire, Indiana State Police, Greene County Ambulance Service, Taylor Township Fire Department, Coroner George Ockerman and Bill's Auto Tow Service.
