Local Residents Named To 2016 Indiana Audubon Society Board Of Directors

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Audubon Society is proud to announce its 2016 Board of Directors.

Indiana Audubon's mission is to stimulate interest in birds and their protection; to serve the needs of youth, civic, church, schools and other groups by providing information concerning birds; and to educate the public concerning the necessity for conserving and preserving Indiana's natural heritage, its unique flora and fauna.

"We have an amazing group of volunteers assembled this year and ready to host terrific events and programs," said Jeff Canada, Indiana Audubon's president. "Indiana's Bicentennial will be a year of birding with the Indiana Dunes Birding Festival and the Bird Town Indiana program both gaining momentum."

In addition to special events and programs, Indiana Audubon Society hosts field trips and programs throughout the year and works with the Indiana Young Birders, a group of young adults who are learning more about the hobby of bird watching. Indiana Audubon is a proud sponsor of the Indiana Dunes Birding Festival, an event designed to celebrate the dunes area's rich biodiversity and bird watching opportunities. This year's festival is May 5-8 and registration can be purchased online at www.indunesbirdingfestival.com. Bird Town Indiana is modeled after the "Tree City USA" program and the highly successful Bird City, Wisconsin program, Indiana Audubon Society began Bird Town Indiana in 2013 and has a goal of certifying 16 new communities in honor of Indiana's Bicentennial. Communities must complete an application, meeting at least seven criteria in different areas of interest to become a certified Bird Town Indiana.
