INDOT To Install Temporary Traffic Signals On State Road 446 At Monroe Reservoir Bridge

Last updated on Tuesday, March 8, 2016

(MONROE CO.) - Indiana Department of Transportation’s contractor plans to install temporary traffic signals on either end of the State Road 446 bridge at Monroe Reservoir between now and mid-March in preparation for single-lane traffic restrictions required by a $494,799 bridge overlay project.

CLR Contracting will remove existing material before installing a new 2-inch latex modified concrete bridge deck overlay on the 5-span 385-foot-long structure located 7.8 miles east of S.R. 46 in Polk Township of Monroe County. The state's bridge preservation project is designed to seal the superstructure's deck from moisture intrusion, protect against UV degradation, lower maintenance costs and extend service life.

The Vincennes contractor met with INDOT officials on Thursday (MARCH 3) at Seymour District offices to review contract requirements and present a tentative schedule.

Work along the east half of the S.R. 446 bridge is expected to begin on Monday, April 4. The temporary signals would be activated at that time--restricting northbound and southbound alternating traffic to a single 12½-foot lane (including shoulder) on the west side of the bridge. Once operations on the east half have concluded, motorists will be rerouted to allow work on the west half of the bridge.

Although the contract has a June 30 completion date, INDOT and the contractor are hopeful that the traffic configuration can be normalized to open lanes in each direction by Memorial Day.

S.R. 446's traffic count at the Monroe Reservoir bridge is 1.609 vehicles per day. \
