Firefighters Free Man After Impaling Leg On Fence

Last updated on Monday, March 7, 2016

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington firefighters freed a 21-year-old man Friday night after he impaled his leg on an aluminum fence surrounding Kilroy’s Bar and Grill.

Firefighters were called to the bar in the 500 block of East Kirkwood Ave. around 9 p.m. after a fire alarm sounded. When firefighters arrived the building was evacuated and there was no fire found.

However in the rush to get back inside the bar, some patrons jumped or climbed over the fencing surrounding the outdoor seating area.

That is when a male got tangled and his leg got struck on a 5-foot, aluminum picket fence.

Firefighters were alerted to the injury and found other patrons supporting the man's upper body while his leg was impaled on the fence near his ankle.

Firefighters were able to free the man using a hydraulic pedal cutter to remove the section of fence. He was taken to a nearby hospital with the fence still in his leg.
