Driver Jailed After Cruising Down I-69 at 114 Miles Per Hour

Last updated on Wednesday, March 30, 2016

(DAVIESS CO.) - A Virginia man was jailed Monday afternoon on reckless driving charges after traveling 44 miles per hour over the posted interstate speed limit.

At 5:41 p.m. Trooper Ross Johnson was patrolling Interstate 69 north of the Washington exit, when he clocked a blue 2007 Mazda SUV traveling southbound at 114 miles per hour in a 70 mile per hour zone.

As Johnson turned around and attempted to pull over the Mazda, he radioed ahead to Trooper T.J. Henning, who was southbound on Interstate 69 just south of Johnson. Henning observed the Mazda still southbound. He clocked the vehicle at 85 miles per hour passing his fully marked State Police patrol car.

Johnson and Henning stopped the Mazda and spoke with the driver, 19-year-old Gregory Kellman of Newport News, Virginia. Given the excessive speed and the volume of traffic on the roadway, Johnson arrested Kellman on charges of reckless driving, a Class B misdemeanor Kellman was transported to and lodged in the Daviess County Security Center.
