Bloomington Man Arrested After Threatening To Shoot Self, Troopers

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested early Friday morning after he threatened to hurt himself via “suicide by cop” because he was wanted on a warrant.

According to Indiana State Police Trooper Curt Durnil, Troopers Riley Nungester and Allen Deel went to serve an arrest warrant on 21-year-old Riley Allen at a home in the 3000 block of South Garrison Chapel Road.

Allen was barricaded and refused to surrender to troopers, telling the troopers he would "shoot them both".

Additional officers were called to the scene including ISP troopers and Monroe County deputies. A perimeter was established and ISP negotiators and SWAT members were activated.

After several hours, Indiana State Police Hostage Negotiator Todd Wix and Monroe County Sheriff's Department Sergeant Jeff Feiner were able to talk Allen into surrendering.

Allen was taken into custody without further incident. After receiving the proper medical attention, He was transported to and incarcerated in the Monroe County Jail.

Assisting at the scene was an IU Health ambulance.
