(BLOOMINGTON) - The items bought by the former Owen County auditor and council member Angie Lawson will be auctioned off to help recoup some of the taxpayer’s money she spent.
Some of those items include laptops, an iPad tablet, diamond jewelry, gift cards and other items she purchased at Walmart and online.
County Attorney Richard Lorenz says he would like to recover as much money as possible from Lawson's years of stealing from the county coffers.
Lawson arranged to have the county's Walmart credit card bills sent to a post office box in her name, then diverted funds from county accounts to pay them. This went on from 2010 until the summer of 2014. No one noticed until the county auditor found a suspicious Walmart invoice and called the police.
The auction will be held at a county-wide picnic.
Lawson is currently serving a 20-month federal prison term that ends in May 2017.
