(BLOOMINGTON) - A 14-year-old girl was arrested on a prostitution charge after she offered sex in exchange for money on Facebook.
Bloomington Police Department Capt. Steve Kellams says police began their investigation in January after a woman called police reported she had found sexual text messages from the girl on her husband's cell phone.
Police obtained search warrants for the girl's Facebook page and her cell phone records.
Police found several incidents were the girl, who told people she was 17, offered sex in exchange for money.
"It was clear she had knowingly and intentionally been offering to perform sex acts for money to various individuals," Kellams added. "The teen has a history of family problems and her guardian are having a difficult time controlling her."
The teen was arrested on one charge of prostitution after police discovered she did have sex with one male she solicited on Facebook. She was referred to juvenile court. Police say this is not the same man whose wife found text messages on his phone.
