11 Southwest Central Counties To Benefit From More Than $42 Million In Grants

(UNDATED) - Eleven Southwest Central Indiana counties including Lawrence County will benefit from more than $42 million dollars in grants from the Lily Endowment.

The counties - Brown, Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Orange, Owen and Washington - will all see benefits research and development, workforce and education initiatives, and other projects that enhance the quality of life for those living in the 11-county region.

One initiatives is an an education and workforce plan funded by a $25 million grant to Regional Opportunity Initiatives, Inc., or ROI, a newly formed nonprofit that will make its mission supporting regional development in the 11 counties. An Applied Research Institute that will be located near Crane is also in the plans. The institute would have its startup expenses funded through a $16 million grant to Central Indiana Corporate Partnership Foundation.

With the help of the institute, more than $400 million worth of state-of-the-art labs and equipment at Crane and $25 million in existing labs and facilities at the Battery Innovation Center and WestGate will be leveraged.
