(WHEATLAND) - Knox County police arrested a woman after a domestic fight turned deadly.

Police arrested 39-year-old Candice Charlton after police say she stabbed 35-year-old Gerald Sturgeon during a domestic fight Friday night. Both are from Wheatland.

Police were called to a home on 213 South Short Street around 7:30 p.m. Friday after a report that a man had been stabbed. When police arrived they found Sturgeon lying in the front doorway of the home with a stab wound to his back. He was not breathing. Police began CPR and Sturgeon was then transported to Good Samaritan hospital where he died from his injuries.

An autopsy was performed Saturday.

Police obtained a search warrant for the home and recovered the murder weapon. Charlton was arrested around 9 p.m. on a charge of murder. She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for a medical evaluation and then taken to jail.

The investigation into what happened Friday night continues.
