(BEDFORD) - Join Dale Weigel from the White River RC&D Forestry Committee on Thursday, February 25 and Saturday, February 27 to hone your skills in identifying trees in winter. People are invited to attend one or both sessions of the workshop.

Thursday's session will be from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. and will be held at the Spring Mill State Park Nature Center, east of Mitchell, IN. Saturday's session will also be held at Spring Mill State Park. Participants will meet in the Nature Center parking lot at 9 a.m. The Saturday session should last until about noon.

Weigel explains that in Thursday's session he will go over ways to easily tell trees apart without their leaves. As a forester with over 35 years of experience Weigel has learned many tricks to identify trees. He will bring twig samples for people to examine the buds and twigs of common trees to compare different species.

On Saturday, Weigel will take people on a foray through the woods identifying trees and showing people the differences in bark, twigs, and other characteristics. If people are unable to make the Thursday session, they are still welcome to attend on Saturday.

The cost of the workshop is $5 and pre-registration would be appreciated so we have enough handouts available. Refreshments will be provided at both sessions.

Call Teena Ligman at (812) 276-4757 or email for more information or to register for the workshop.
