Teen Arrested After Stealing Vehicle, Fleeing From ISP Trooper

(WHEATLAND) - A teen was arrested after he stole a vehicle and crashed it while fleeing from a Indiana State trooper.

On Monday at 4:30 p.m. ISP received a report that a 2009 Ford Ranger had been stolen from a gas station at 6th Street and Old Wheatland Road in Vincennes.

Moments later, Trooper Ryan Johnson spotted the stolen truck traveling east on U.S. 50, west of Wheatland. Trooper Johnson attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to stop and accelerated to approximately 95 miles per hour.

The driver attempted to turn south on State Road 57, but lost control and struck a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica that was stopped on State Road 57 in the left turn lane south of U.S. 50.

After impact, the Chrysler was pushed into a 2007 Chrysler 300 that was stopped on State Road 57 in the northbound lane.

The Chrysler 300 was then pushed into a 2015 GMC Sierra that was stopped in the right turn lane south of U.S. 50.

The driver of the 2007 Chrysler Pacifica, 20-year-old Klarissa Wright and her 16-year-old passenger 16-year-old and the driver of the 2007 Chrysler 300 63-year-old Joseph Davis of Petersburg and his passenger, 55-year-old Sandra Davis, were taken to Daviess County Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the GMC Sierra, 29-year-old Anthony Berry of Washington, was not injured during the incident.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, 18-year-old Austin Eckes of Vincennes, suffered a neck injury and was taken to Daviess County Hospital for treatment and released. He was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement, theft and reckless driving and is being held at the Knox County Jail on no bond.
