(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Republican State Representative Eric Koch has been recognized by American Conservative Union Foundation as a recipient of their 2015 Award for Conservative Excellence.

Koch is running for the Senate District 44 seat currently held by Brent Steele, who is retiring at the end of his term this year.

"The ACU's ratings reflect how elected officials view the role of government in an individual's life," said ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp. "Rep. Koch is receiving our Award for Conservative Excellence because of his strong, consistent record of voting in support of ideals articulated in the U.S. Constitution. The range of issues selected have been specifically designed to convey to voters the most accurate assessment of Indiana's elected officials who can be counted on to defend the principles of a free society: Life, Liberty and Property. Indiana is fortunate to have such a committed conservative in the legislature."

ACU researches and selects a wide range of bills that reflect a member's adherence to conservative principles. The bills selected focus on former President Ronald Reagan's philosophy of the "three-legged stool"

  • Economic - taxes, budgets, regulation, spending, healthcare, and property
  • Social and cultural - 2nd Amendment, religious freedom, life, welfare and education
  • Government integrity - voting, individual liberty, privacy, and transparency

"When I was sworn into office I took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Indiana, and I live out that oath each and every day that I serve in the Indiana General Assembly," Koch said. "I'm honored that my commitment to conservative principles has been recognized by the ACU, one of the nation's oldest and most prominent conservative organizations."

A graduate of Georgetown University and Indiana University School of Law, Koch is an attorney in private practice and a small business owner.  An eighth-generation Hoosier, he and his wife Connie, a teacher at Shawswick Elementary, have three sons.

Founded in 1964, the American Conservative Union (ACU) has served as an umbrella organization harnessing the collective strength of conservative organizations fighting for Americans who are concerned with liberty, personal responsibility, traditional values, and strong national defense.
