Purdue Extension Office Hosting Apple Tree Pruning Workshop

Last updated on Thursday, February 25, 2016

(FILLMORE) - The Purdue Extension Office will be hosting an apple tree pruning workshop Friday, March 4.

Growers often neglect the annual training and pruning of fruit trees. Without training and pruning, however, fruit trees will not develop proper shape and form. Properly trained and pruned trees will yield high quality fruit much earlier in their lives and live significantly longer.

In addition, timing of dormant pruning is critical. Pruning should begin as late in the winter as possible to avoid winter injury.

To teach area orchardists more about apple tree pruning, the Purdue Extension Area 5 ANR Educators and Chandler's Farm & Country Market are sponsoring an Apple Tree Pruning Workshop on Friday, March 4 from 1 p.m. till 3 p.m. at Chandler's Farm & Country Market (2849 S CR 825 E, Fillmore).

Purdue Extension Specialist Peter Hirst will lead demonstrations on apple tree pruning. This program is free, open to the public, and pre-registration is not required.

If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in this program, contact Jenna Nees at 765-653-8411 prior to the workshop.

Purdue University is an equal opportunity/equal access/affirmative action institution.
