Power Lines Spark Fire And Power Outage

(SALEM) - High winds snapped one of a beams attached to a power pole just off State Road 135 North Friday afternoon, sparking a fire in a field.

Salem Fire Department and Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze at 1 p.m.

The fire was in a field between two homes, putting both in jeopardy.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly.

When the lines fell, it not only sparked a fire but power outages out for about 1,300 residents including Salem Community School and other businesses on the north side of the city.

Power was restored to everyone around 3:30 p.m.
