Paoli Woman Arrested After Running State Trooper's Vehicle Off Roadway

Last updated on Wednesday, February 24, 2016

(MITCHELL) - A Paoli woman is behind bars after she was driving while intoxicated and ran an Indiana State Trooper’s vehicle off the roadway.

At 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Troopers Robert Lambert and Noah Ewing were traveling southbound on Ind. 37 near the Lawrence/Orange County line when they noticed a black 2016 Nissan SUV traveling northbound in their lane.

The Nissan forced the troopers to brake and swerve their Chevrolet Tahoe police vehicle off of the roadway. Trooper Lambert turned his vehicle around and activated his speed radar, which displayed that the Nissan was still traveling northbound at 80 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour speed zone.

Troopers were able to catch up to the Nissan and conduct a traffic stop on State Road 37 at State Road 60. During the stop, troopers spoke with the driver, 25-year-old Heather Ann Osborn of Paoli, and immediately smelled alcoholic beverages. Troopers also saw a 3-year-old child buckled into a child seat in the back of the SUV.

Osborne was transported to IU Health in Paoli to conduct a certified chemical toxicology test, and was then taken, without incident, to the Lawrence County Jail. The child was turned over to Osborn's mother at the scene.

She was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment and OWI with a passenger less than 18-years-old.

The Indiana State Police remains focused on removing dangerous and impaired drivers from Indiana's highways. If you observe what you believe to be a dangerous driver, do not hesitate to call 911 and inform the dispatch operator of your location, direction of travel, description of the suspect vehicle, and what actions they are taking that you believe to be dangerous. Together we can keep Hoosiers safe on our roads.
