(MITCHELL) - A Louisville man was arrested after a Lawrence County Police officer stopped his vehicle for an equipment violation.
According to Sheriff Mike Branham, Officer Andrew Tillett was on patrol in the area of Hancock Avenue, west of Meridian road when he spotted a Dodge truck pulling a trailer and stopped the driver. Fellow officer Capt. Andrew Phillips arrived with his K9 partner Neko arrived to assist.
During the traffic stop the officers discovered that the driver, 43-year-old Larry Sizemore, was driving with a suspended driver's license.
"Officers noticed that the driver appeared to be quite nervous, and his female passenger appeared to be passed out, and became nauseous when she was asked for identification," Sheriff Branham says.
Officers also discovered the plate on the truck was expired and the trailer did not have a license plate.
When officers ran the VIN on the trailer, they discovered it had been reported stolen out of Bartholomew County.
"While Officer Tillett was investigating the stolen trailer, Captain Phillips deployed his K9 for a free-air sniff of the truck," Sheriff Branham added. "K9 Neko alerted on the driver's side and passenger side doors of the truck."
Officers searched the truck and discovered syringes, baggies with a white powdery residue, glass smoking device with white powdery residue, a magnetic container with white powdery residue, and small plastic bags often used for packaging illicit drugs for sale.
The white powdery substance was field tested and tested positive for meth.
Sizemore was arrested on charges of possession of meth, reckless possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a common nuisance.
In addition, he was issued citations for driving while his driver's license was suspended, no or improper taillights, no brake lights, expired license plate (truck), and no registration plates (trailer).
The female passenger has not been charged.
The stolen trailer investigation will be continued by the investigating agency, Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department.
