(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man turned himself in Friday afternoon after police say he kicked a woman in the head with steel-toed boots.

26-year-old John Bartlett of Bedford is facing charges of aggravated battery, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, two counts of domestic battery and two counts of intimidation. He was booked into the Lawrence County jail at 12:31 p.m. on Friday and later released after posting bond of $5,005.

Police had been looking for Bartlett since February 21 after they received a report of a domestic fight at a home in the 200 block of Old U.S. 50.

According to Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults, officers were called to the home at 10:48 a.m.

"The woman was kicked in the head by the suspect who was wearing steel-toed boots," Shoults said at the time of the offense.

Bartlett fled the scene before officers arrived.

The woman suffered a 6 to 7 inch laceration around her left eye in addition to other injuries. She was flown by Air Evac to Methodist Hospital.

"When officers last checked on her condition, she was reported to be 'all right' according to nursing staff," Shoults added. "We don't have any information on what started the incident. Officers collected evidence and statements at the scene. A 22-month-old child of the victim was in the home at the time the battery took place. DCS (Department of Child Services) was called and arrangements made to get the baby to a safe place."

One Lawrence County officer spotted Bartlett not long after the incident traveling northbound on Sowder Lane from Little Salt Creek Run. With the officer in pursuit, Bartlett turned left on Elmer Jack Road where the officer lost sight of Bartlett and terminated the pursuit.

A warrant was later issued for his arrest.
