Loogootee Superintendent Dr. Joan Keller To Retire

Last updated on Tuesday, February 23, 2016

(LOOGOOTEE) - Loogootee School Superintendent Dr. Joan Keller will retire July 1.

Keller has spent more than 43 years in public education as a teacher and administrator. Keller has been with Loogootee since the summer of 2014.

Keller taught in Shoals for 23 years starting in 1973. In 1996 she became principal at Switzerland County High School for four years and then was at North Knox as principal for a year. She then went back to Shoals and served as the Elementary School Principal there.

Her first superintendent's position was at North Knox in 2004. A year later she moved to Spencer County and served as superintendent there for five years. She then served as an interim Superintendent in Pike County after that.

Keller was the focus of state headline news last year when she requested her salary of $97,000 to be cut by 25 percent over two years to help bring a social worker to the school corporation.

Dr. Joan Keller's world revolves around kids and she says she wouldn't have it any other way.

"They're the best natural resource that we have and we need to take care of them and nurture them," she said at the time.
