(BLOOMFIELD) - The Greene 2016 Bicentennial Committee plans to lend a hand to the Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area Saturday, February 27 by spending a day cleaning up the roadways surrounding the area of litter and debris.
With Marsh Madness around the corner, group spokesperson Halea Franklin told the Greene County Daily World, "We want to step in and ensure the property looks its best."
While acknowledging that most visitors will be looking at the birds, Franklin said they want to ensure the area offers visitors the best impression of our county.
"We are currently seeking volunteers to assist with our clean-up efforts." said Franklin.
"The state has created a new way to track volunteer hours at its properties this year, so those who are volunteering need to register as a volunteer by visiting www.wildlife.in.gov/8301.htm and click on Division of Fish and Wildlife CERVIS login." said Franklin.
Registered volunteers are asked to meet at 1815 State Road 59 South (which is the double wide just around the corner once you get around the curve past Old Lyons Road) and will start clean-up at 9 a.m. and continue until noon.
Franklin added, "Volunteers should bring work gloves. Greene '16 will provide trash bags and buckets."
