(FREETOWN) - An autopsy will determine the cause of death of a person found inside a home that burned Saturday in Freetown.
Police decline to release the name, age or sex of that person and will wait on the autopsy that will be conducted at Schneck Medical Center.
Emergency crews were called the house fire northwest of Freetown at 4:25 a.m.
County Reserve Officer Kevin Settle, Brownstown Reserve Officer Blake McCrary and county Officer Mark Holt were the first to respond. Upon arrival, they reported that the house was engulfed in flames and part of the home had fallen in.
Pershing Township firefighters responded and were assisted by firefighters from Owen Township and Brownstown Fire Department. Most of the fire was extinguished by 6 a.m.
County Officer Bob Lucas, a crime scene investigator, Sheriff Michael Carothers, County Officer Rob Henley and Coroner Roger Wheeler joined the investigation and were assisted by State Fire Marshal Clayton T. Kinder.
Investigators remained at the scene at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
