Duke Energy Warning Residents About Scam

Last updated on Monday, February 15, 2016

(BEDFORD) - Duke Energy is warning residents of a growing phone scam targeting their customers.

Phone scammers, posing as Duke Energy employees, are calling residents and telling them that they are delinquent on their bill.

They may also threaten to turn off your power if the bill is not paid in full. The caller then requests that the customer put the funds on a prepaid debit card and then asks for the card number.

Duke Energy will never call to demand immediate payment about money owed without first sending you a notification by mail. They will also not ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.

If you have any doubts, hang up and call Duke Energy at (877) 632-3853.
