Crews Run Into Snag While Preparing Milwaukee Depot For Move

Last updated on Friday, February 12, 2016

(BEDFORD) - Crews preparing to move the Milwaukee Depot to its new location ran into a snag after workers from Tri-County Builders found three underground fuel tanks.

Business and Community Development Director Marla Jones told the Times Mail that an environmental specialist will assess the tanks at the 14th and J site and then determine the city's next steps. Until then work at that location will stop.

Now crews have shifted to the Depot's future home a few blocks away preparing that site for the arrival of the depot.

Officials were hoping to have the depot moved by April, but Jones says it will probably be May before the job is complete.

This Stellar Communities project will cost an estimated $3.1 million dollars to renovate and move the depot.
