Last updated on Thursday, February 4, 2016

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington couple was arrested early this morning after a domestic dispute ended in a stabbing.

Police say the verbal fight escalated after an argument over cigarettes and alcohol.

Police were called to the 1200 block of West Cottage Grove Avenue at 4:30 a.m. after a report of a stabbing.

Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams says that when police arrived they found 22-year-old Christopher Hoskins had a 8-to-10 inch long superficial and shallow slice to his right hip and a small cut to the inside of his right arm.

Hoskins was at first uncooperative with police and aggressive with officers as they tried to give Hoskins first-aid.

Hoskins told police 22-year-old Alicia Montgomery had stabbed him.

They found Montgomery inside. She had suffered a swollen left eye, a bloody nose and had red marks on her throat.

Montgomery told police, Hoskins assaulted her first. She asked him to leave and Hoskins had refused. Instead he went into a bedroom and then locked himself in a bathroom.

Police say Montgomery then went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife. She kicked a hole in the locked bathroom door and began slashing at Hoskins.

An ambulance was called to the scene, but both refused medical treatment. Both were then arrested and taken to jail.

Hoskins is facing charges of strangulation and domestic battery. His bond was set at $4,000 surety, $500 cash. Montgomery is facing charges of aggravated battery and domestic battery. Her bond was set at $15,000 surety, $500 cash.
