(BLOOMFIELD) - A Bloomfield man found guilty of slashing the throat of another man in an unprovoked attack in 2014 was sentenced in Greene Circuit Court Thursday morning.

Michael Alec Miller was sentenced to 30 years in prison with 10 years suspended to probation.

Miller was found guilty, but mentally ill, of attempted murder and battery causing serious bodily injury after a two-day trail.

Police say Miller slashed the throat of Jeremy Kohn in August of 2014 as the victim sat on his porch with his girlfriend, which was just a few blocks from Miller's own home.

The attack, which police believe was unprovoked, occurred at 501 South Seminary Street in Bloomfield. Miller lives on the same street - his address is listed in the police report as 930 South Seminary Street.

Neither Kohn or his girlfriend knew the man that attacked him.

Kohn required more than 40 stitches in his neck to close the wound.
