Bloomfield Man Arrested On Drug Charges

(BLOOMFIELD) - A car crash Friday night ended with a Bloomfield man being arrested after police found bottles of alcohol and drugs in his vehicle.

Police arrested 35-year-old Travis Bland early Saturday morning on five felony and five misdemeanor charges.

Those charges include:

  • Operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of of between .08 and .15 (Class C misdemeanor)
  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated (Class C misdemeanor)
  • Oerating a vehicle while intoxicated-endangerment (Class A misdemeanor),
  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior (Level 6 felony)
  • Operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of between .08 and .15 with a prior conviction (Level 6 felony)
  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated-endangerment with a prior conviction (Level 6 felony)
  • Unlawful possession or use of legend drug (Level 6 felony)
  • Resisting law enforcement (Level 6 felony)
  • Possession of a schedule I,II,III or a IV controlled substance (Class A misdemeanor)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor)
  • Maintaining a common nuisance (Level 6 felony)

According to a Worthington Police report, Worthington Police officer James Harrington was on routine patrol at 11:22 p.m. Friday when he noticed a driver had failed to signal when turning onto State Road 157 from Smith Ferry Road in Worthington.

Officer Harrington turned on his emergency light, but the driver failed to stop and accelerated.

The driver, later determined to be Blane traveled south on State Road 157 towards Bloomfield his vehicle left the roadway and went into a yard north of Baseline Road

While approaching the car, Officer Harrington reported he observed Bland attempting to hide from him, by slumping down into the driver's seat of the 1996 green Dodge Neon.

The officer ordered Harrington to leave the car. When speaking to Bland the officer noticed Bland's speech was slurred and smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

Bland was arrested. His blood alcohol content was .139 percent.

Officers then searched Bland's pockets and found a metal and rubber smoking device in his front pocket, with a burnt residue which emitted the smell commonly associated with marijuana.

During a search of Bland's vehicle police found eight out of twelve-pack of beer (one of which was opened) a beer bottle in the rear floorboard, three pink round shaped pills identified later identified as Lisinopril 10 mg, a legend drug, two pink oval shaped pills identified as Alprazolam .5 mg, a controlled substance, and a prescription bottle with the label torn off, which contained three Cephalexin 500 mg, a legend drug, three Zyvox 600 mg, a legend drug and 17 Ciprofloxacin 500 mg, a legend drug.

Police also discovered Bland was operating the vehicle while his driver's license had been suspended indefinitely after he failed to show for court on the charge. The registration for the vehicle had also expired in December.
