(BEDFORD) - Firefighters with the Bedford Fire Department extinguished two fires this weekend.

The first was Saturday afternoon at Bedford Recycling.

Firefighters were alerted at 1:21 p.m. after a report of an Army vehicle burning at the recycling center.

When firefighters arrived there were no employees at the business. Firefighters had to cut the lock on the gate to get to the burning vehicle.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly.

Firefighters then contacted the business owner, who replaced the lock on the gate.

The second fire was Sunday at 5:44 p.m. at 1020 17th Street.

Firefighters were called to the area after a resident reported a fire between a home and a shed. The caller said trash was on fire and items were exploding.

When firefighters arrived they found several trash bags on fire. They extinguished the blaze quickly. Firefighters believe discarded cigarette butts in the trash started the fire.
