(BEDFORD) - A Williams woman was arrested Saturday after she passed out at the Bedford Public Library.

Police arrested 22-year-old Ashley Deckard on charges of public intoxication, possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to the library just after 5 p.m. after a report of a woman refusing to wake up and leave the library.

"They were attempting to close for the evening and she would not wake up," Parsley says.

When officers arrived they attempted to wake Deckard.

"They had to physically pick her up out of the chair and that is when she became combative," Parsley added. "She had items from her pursue strung all over the floor and on the table."

Police then noticed a syringe and spoon in a side pocket of her purse.

Deckard was arrested and taken to the police station. Once there, Deckard informed police she had other illegal items on her person.

A female officer patted Deckard down and found a broken spoon, a syringe and a wad of cotton covered in a white residue. The residue tested positive for meth.

Then when being booked into the Lawrence County Security Center, officers found that Deckard had a white plastic baggie that contained a white-powdery substance. That substance also tested positive for meth.
