Wabash Valley Correctional Facility Has New Narcotics K-9

Last updated on Monday, January 25, 2016

(CARLISLE) - Thanks to a donation from the Humane Society of Sullivan County, the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) has a new narcotics K-9.

Bruno, a 1.5 year old Belgian Malinois, met his new handler Officer Michael Feese, of Greene County.

Greene County Daily World reports, K9 Bruno is off to St. Louis for basic training at Sovereign K9. Sovereign co-director Scott Bronnbauer, recently donated a fully-trained aggression dog, Heidi, to WVCF, volunteered to train Bruno in basic obedience. Bronnbauer said the initial training will set a solid foundation for Bruno's future mission in drug detection.

Shelter Manager Tina Baker said the donation is a good fit, with Bruno staying in Sullivan County and being treated like a member of the Feese family when not on duty at Wabash Valley.

Officer Feese said Bruno will go through an evaluation period upon his return followed by several weeks of narcotics detection training.

"We just met and I already feel a bond developing with Bruno," Feese said. "He's outgoing and has a great disposition which I think will be perfect for narcotics work."

Bruno will be stepping in for a recently retired narcotics dog at the maximum-security facility.
