(BEDFORD) - The Salvation Army of Lawrence County's Red Kettle campaign raised a total of $36,757.79.
Money was dropped into the kettles at retailers in both Bedford and Mitchell from November until Christmas Eve.
Capt. Donna Rose, says that amount falls short of the $38,000 goal, but was pleased with what was raised thanking the community for their generous donations and those that rang the bell at area kettles.
Now officials are in the mist of a mail campaign. Last year the group raised $24,000. The total raised will not be available until the end of January.
Red Kettle donations are used to stock the Salvation Army's food pantry, assist people in need with rent and utilities, provide emergency housing, operate the warming center and provide Christmas assistance to area children in need.
