Salem Family Offers Reward For Information On Who Shot Their Dog

Last updated on Thursday, January 7, 2016

(SALEM) - A Salem family whose dog was shot and killed on New Year’s Day is offering a reward to anyone who can provide information to leads to the arrest of the person who killed their dog.

The fatal shot was fired only 45 feet from the couple's front door. Troy Earhart says there is still a pool of blood where the dog was shot.

The incident happened at 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 1. Troy, his wife Jessica and their two daughters were all home.

The couple had just put their children to bed when they heard a loud band. They didn't realize what happened until they ran outside and found their dog Ecko had been shot in the head and was killed.

The couple called police, who reviewed surveillance cameras on the couple's property, but the images were too dark to see much.

Police say the dog was deliberately shot and whoever pulled the trigger could be facing several serious charges.

Troy Earhart says the direction of the shot was directly toward the children's bedrooms.

The family is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest of a suspect.

The family has two other Great Pyrenees. They said the dogs protect their livestock and they've never been aggressive toward anyone. The family says they have an electric fence to keep them on their property.

If you have any information you're asked to call Washington County Sheriff's Department at (812) 883-5999 or the Earhart's directly at (317) 721-3256 or justiceforecko@gmail.com.
