Last updated on Friday, January 15, 2016

(BEDFORD) - Rev. Charles Harrison, senior pastor of Barnes United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, will be the special guest speaker on Sunday as the community gathers at the Lawrence County Courthouse lobby to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The event will begin at 2 p.m. with Harrison sharing his vision for civil rights.

According to Clarence Brown, who organizes the event every year, Harrison is a recipient of the Distinguished Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Award. He serves as president of the board of directors for the Indianapolis-based Ten Point Coalition, an organization comprised of churches, faith-based groups, and individuals endeavoring to address critical issues in Indianapolis.

A Baptist minister, King, spearheaded the African-American Civil Rights Movement during the 1960s with his "I Have a Dream" message.

He was presented the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, then assassinated four years later in Memphis.

Following the brief ceremony and traditional march around the courthouse, the gathering will reconvene at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church for additional fellowship.
