Public Has Until Thursday To Comment On Updated Master Plan For Lake Monroe

Last updated on Tuesday, January 12, 2016

(BLOOMINGTON) - The public has until Thursday, January 14 to comment on an updated master plan for Lake Monroe.

The plan has not been updated for nearly 50 years.

That first plan was approved in 1967 to guide the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as it manages and conserves the largest man-made body of water in the state.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are working with consultants Woolpert Inc. on updating the plan.
The updated version will contain detailed analysis of existing resources, land-use patterns, present laws affecting the use of the lake as well as goals and objectives for the future.

Public comment on the preliminary draft will run until January 14, an extension from the initial comment deadline. Many local leaders felt the earlier deadline was too short to properly alert the public and solicit comments. Comments can be sent to monroelakemp.comments@woolpert.com.

The preliminary draft of the plan is available at http://1.usa.gov/1SvNF2h

After comments are received, a revised draft is scheduled to be released January 22. A final draft of the plan is not expected until June.
